Design & Build
Brompton Singapore needed a retail experience that reflected their new brand identity focused on “urban freedom” while ensuring cost efficiency and sustainability. The challenge was creating a compact yet dynamic space that accommodated bike displays, customer engagement areas, and a multi-functional layout while refurbishing existing fixtures to minimise environmental impact.
Brompton also required a separate workshop for bike servicing to complement the retail store. This space needs seamless customer flow, from consultations to complex repairs, ensuring a high-quality experience for all visitors. The goal was to create a workshop that serviced bikes and became a community hub for Brompton users
Brompton Junction's design fulfils the philosophy of this brand: break away from traditional retail. Fluid undulating surfaces create different zones for exhibiting the latest bike models and communicating with customers through interactive pods, comfortable resting spots and social media interviews. This continuing design flow invites the visitor's curiosity towards Funan Mall to draw her into a space that fosters connection, creativity, and passion for cycling.
In alignment with Brompton’s commitment to sustainability, the design team refurbished existing wall fixtures rather than replacing them. The refreshed look maintains a balance between modern aesthetics and cost-conscious solutions, all while minimising waste.
One of the important features of Brompton Junction’s design is creating a community. The store provides spaces for Brompton users and creators to gather, share ideas, and co-create experiences. Live events, social media engagements, or informal chats in seating pods – all these store categories hold elements of urban cycling culture that anyone could participate in.
Brompton Workshop, located at #01-12, offers top-notch service to keep customers’ bikes in peak condition. The space is designed for walk-ins and pre-scheduled appointments, offering personalised consultations and expert recommendations. From basic tune-ups to complex repairs, the workshop ensures precision and uses genuine Brompton parts directly from their London factory.
The Workshop isn’t just about servicing bikes. It’s a place for Brompton enthusiasts to connect. Customers can chat with specialists, exchange tips with fellow riders, and enjoy a post-ride coffee, all while immersed in the world of Brompton. This community-focused environment extends the brand’s mission of fostering engagement beyond the product itself.
The design team utilised sustainable practices by retaining and refurbishing existing fixtures, giving them a fresh look while maintaining functionality. This approach reduced environmental impact and upheld Brompton’s brand DNA, which values creativity and innovation.
The retail space features modular plinths that can be adjusted for various purposes, from displaying products to offering seating or storage. This multifunctional design ensures Brompton Junction adapts to various customer needs, including social media events, bike showcases, and live discussions.
One standout feature is the bike testing lane, which allows customers to experience the bikes in action within the store. This unique addition brings the concept of “urban freedom” to life, allowing potential buyers to test the latest Brompton models before purchasing.
The dual-location concept at Funan Mall has successfully created a full-circle experience for Brompton enthusiasts. From exploring the latest bike models to receiving expert servicing at the workshop, customers are now more engaged with the brand than ever before. The seamless transition between the retail store and workshop strengthens Brompton’s connection with its customers and the cycling community.
Brompton has reduced its environmental footprint by refurbishing fixtures and adopting eco-conscious design principles while enhancing the customer experience. The project demonstrates how sustainability can go hand-in-hand with innovation and community engagement.
