Noodles XO | 2019 | Hospitality | Design
In Canberra Airport, Greater Group designed Noodles XO , a brand new Asian-fusion restaurant that joins a number of new roll-outs as part of the airport’s expanded F&B offering. The concept of this market-style eatery was uniquely developed for Canberra Airport, offering an authentic Asian-inspired dining experience to passengers.
Greater Group created a design that highlights the restaurant’s Asian fusion menu while seamlessly fitting in with the terminal’s contemporary design. The brief was for the design to accommodate the two separate dining experiences offered by Noodles XO: an on-the-go food offering centred around a sushi bar and display along with low-stool and bar seating, and a sit-down area cultivating hawker-style dining with sightlines into the cookline.
An important design consideration was to ensure the two different dining offerings within the tenancy seamlessly work together. To achieve this, feature mesh ceiling panels in orange and yellow hues were installed to link the two zones. To create cohesion with the rest of the interior, the same materials were used on the wall panelling as well as the canopy above the joint counter. The bamboo panelling was used to evoke a sense of Asian design, but the material was presented in a modern chevron pattern combined with bright touches of colour and curved perforated mesh cladding to modernise the look.
Upon entering the space, the eye is immediately drawn to the feature tile mural wall of a geisha and the vibrant medley of Vietnamese, Chinese and wicker lanterns placed over the counter. Greater Group worked closely with the contractor to achieve the authentic design of the mural, tiles were carefully laid and sanded before the mural was stencilled and hand-painted onto the wall.
Noodles XO is a brand new dining concept that was introduced in Canberra Airport, Australia. The diverse menu features Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian dishes, including noodle dishes like udon, hokkein, pho and ramen along with other favourites like sushi, dumplings, spring rolls and edamame, offering passengers a wide range of dining options to choose from alongside other newly opened venues like City Hill Coffee and CBC Airport Taproom.
